Cyclical Inspection Program
Starting in FISCAL 2008, the cyclical inspection program will begin. The Assessors will be reviewing all town properties over the next five years. Cyclical inspections are necessary to validate the physical information that is on the property cards used to determine the assessed values. Property in Palmer has not been inspected in 20 years and if entry was not allowed at that time the information and assessed value could be incorrect. It is important that property information is correct so property owners are not paying more taxes than their fair share.
Inspectors will make two attempts to measure and list the properties without prior announcements by knocking on the door. If access is not gained in one of those attempts, a letter will be sent requesting information and to schedule an appointment to measure and inspect the property. If no access is allowed, assumptions will be made possibly resulting in overvaluation of the property.
If you have any questions at any time during the process, please do not hesitate to contact the Assessors office at 413-283-2607.
